Filmtipp: No Country for Old Men

ein sehr zu empfehlender film, der die psychopathie in form eines "gescheiterten psychopathen" erschreckend realistisch darstellt und damit in etwa zeigt wie gefährlich diese menschliche subspezies eigtl ist...und dann kann man sich mit etwas hintergrundwissen dazu in etwa auch vorstellen wie gefährlich ein sog. "erfolgreicher psychopath" in politik, wirtschaft, militär usw ist, da es sich dabei auf einen viel grösseren bereich auswirkt und er selbst den abzug auch nicht drücken brauch...

No Country for Old Men is the Coen brothers latest film (other highlights include The Man Who Wasn’t There and Fargo), based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy. This is hands down the best film of the year. It is stunningly filmed, written and acted, the material is rich and relevant, and it is emotionally moving.

The story revolves around a psychopathic killer and the people that get involved in the destruction he leaves in his wake. The film is very much a commentary on the lack of understanding that normal people have when it comes to psychopaths, and also on the nature of psychopathy. The character is a textbook psychopath, albeit one who feels less of a need to keep on his mask of sanity (he is a compulsive murderer, after all). You’ll find every criterion for psychopathy, especially his coldness, morbid fascination with normal human reactions, special psychological knowledge, paralogic, and predatorial world view.

Not only does the film accurately portray the psychopath, it portrays normal people in all their contradictory and varied complexity. The writing is often taken word for word from McCarthy’s book, and like Faulkner, McCarthy has a way of writing with essence. His Southern characters speak from the soul. They are flawed, and yet completely sympathetic. They are naturally egotists, but their conscience is palpable.

However, the movie is very much about the terror of the situation. It is about the cycle of ponerogenesis on the interpersonal level (although translatable to macrosocial levels), the ignorance that tragically perpetuates the cycle, and the pangs of conscience of those who see that something is not right and seemingly hopeless about such a world.

Ja, kann ich zustimmen. Sehenswert. Ohne Psychopathen wäre die Welt kriegsfrei. Die Psychopathen profitieren
von der Friedfertigkeit der Menschen.

Das einzige was diese Systematik ändern kann, ist echte Demokratie.

Ich mochte den Film, wenngleich ich das Ende sehr deprimierend fand.

Interessant war die Entscheidung des Hauptcharakters, mitten in der Nacht zurückzufahren und dem angeschossenen Mexikaner Wasser zu bringen. Hätte er dies nicht getan, wäre er wohl davongekommen. Erinnert irgendwie an Tony Montanas Entscheidung in Scarface, das Auto mit den Kindern nicht zu sprengen. Ausgerechnet eine moralische Entscheidung führt den Halsabschneider zum Untergang.
